Soldiers and TSA

So this story is circulating....and if you believe it, you'd feel quite irritated at the TSA for their bad behavior.

I had a discussion with someone on Facebook over this very story. I do not believe it. There are several points that show how incredible this story really is.

For one, Customs officers aren't there to search you for bombs. They are looking for food/insects/money, etc.  Also, nail clippers aren't prohibited. Thirdly, if this was a military flight, and no one was allowed to leave the secured area, TSA had no reason to deal with the soldiers.

The argument that was continuously reiterated was that these guys are coming home from deployment, which should have earned them some exemptions from being screened by the TSA.  As much as I would like to agree with this argument, I know that military personnel are no less human than the rest of us.  The Department of defense requires all soldiers to submit to drug testing. If our military personnel are so trustworthy, why can't they just be asked if they are doing drugs??

These folks go through much more than the rest of us have to. They pay prices that many of us can't imagine. I appreciate their service immensely, being the spouse of a former solder. However, I am realistic enough to know that military personnel are not immune to issues such as mental illess and financial difficulties.  The problems that life brings can be magnified by the stress of deployment...

I support our troops all the way. I support their family members all the way too. I KNOW what it does to a spouse to have to say "Goodbye" for months at a time. But let's get real, people. No one is superhero enough to be immune from the laws and regulations that are set forth for the rest of us.
