Perils of Living in an RV That is 23 Years Old..

OK, so we expected a few headaches...but we didn't expect them all at one time! Really, it's just a couple of issues that seem to keep popping up. Just when you think you have the problem diagnosed...it turns out to be a different diagnosis. Our heater and water heater have been giving us fits for the whole month!
Chris has taken cold showers and I have been boiling water to bathe in since a week after we moved in. We have had every part of the water heater checked...and just figured out a couple of nights ago that it isn't parts of the water heater--it's the battery running low! whodathunkit! Everyone that we tell this to is looking at us like we're nuts. No one even suggested that it might have something to do with the 12 volt system.
The heater has been sporadically blowing cold air and freezing us to bits, mostly in the middle of the night. We were hoping that  it would at least last until the payday after our last payment (which is TODAY YAAAYY!!), but it gave out on us Thursday night. When the temp was 12. Fahrenheit. Frikkin COLD.  In that kind of cold, having blankets and layers doesn't do much good. I used the heating pad for warmth...and it warmed the part of my body that it touched. Nothing else. That cold permeatedmy blankets. I thought having the dogs under the blankets would help....not so much.  We all just shivered under the blankets until daytime temps got up past freezing.
Next payday, we will be purchasing a catalytic heater, rather than spending more cash trying to get the one we have working. Catalytic heaters are much more efficient, much quieter, and probably better on the sinuses! LOL.
None of this is really a complaint, mind you. I am OK. We are all OK. I am still happy happy to have my own spot. I am totally thankful for everything that we have. I am thankful that this will be our last payment (in case you had trouble determining this).  Just remember that making such a change in living arrangements is not for the faint of heart. You have to be a bit of a tomboy.

AAAAAAAAAA!

And I'm not freaking out!
I have a plan!
I only have a few gifts to buy!
(Most of which will be Walmart Gift Cards)

One More Payment...

One more payment, and it's ours! We will have our own place to live without settling for something and making payments for 30 years. It's cool to be able to say that. The interest involved in a home loan is just not my cuppa tea. This will make it easier to save up to buy a home, or build one...or buy another RV, if we so choose.

Everything is up in the air at this point. We have the freedom to not make any decisions.
We will be able to pay off our truck quickly. We can make needed repairs on the truck and the RV as well. Fix things up as we like them. I want a paint job on the RV (never understood why they come from the factory like that)...though I don't know if Chris will agree...

My Man makes good money and has worked hard to put us in this situation, and I am blessed to be his  wife. It's been an adventurous few weeks, but we're used to that. Sometimes it' s hard to believe that I am married to someone who is as crazy and adventurous as me.

So begins my celebration---This weekend is the last payment! Then it's ours!!

Pitbulls and Parolees

Pittbulls and Parolees

This show is a good one. I haven't even watched it yet, and know that it is worthy of at least one viewing.  Saturday, November 27 at 10 PM, for everyone who watches, money will be given for this cause. I believe it to be a worthy one.

Some of the dogs that are on this show have been fighters. Those are usually the ones that have to be put down, since no one wants a dog with PTSD....especially one that already has a reputation for being dangerous.

These people take care of the dogs so that they don't have to be euthanized because some jerk trained them to be fighters.

So I am asking that you check out the show on Saturday night!
Thanks!

A Ham Funny

I discovered Slow Wave in an Albuquerque publication called 'Alibi'. It's interesting, to say the least. Send in your dreams, and this guy will draw them...

Soldiers and TSA

So this story is circulating....and if you believe it, you'd feel quite irritated at the TSA for their bad behavior.

I had a discussion with someone on Facebook over this very story. I do not believe it. There are several points that show how incredible this story really is.

For one, Customs officers aren't there to search you for bombs. They are looking for food/insects/money, etc.  Also, nail clippers aren't prohibited. Thirdly, if this was a military flight, and no one was allowed to leave the secured area, TSA had no reason to deal with the soldiers.

The argument that was continuously reiterated was that these guys are coming home from deployment, which should have earned them some exemptions from being screened by the TSA.  As much as I would like to agree with this argument, I know that military personnel are no less human than the rest of us.  The Department of defense requires all soldiers to submit to drug testing. If our military personnel are so trustworthy, why can't they just be asked if they are doing drugs??

These folks go through much more than the rest of us have to. They pay prices that many of us can't imagine. I appreciate their service immensely, being the spouse of a former solder. However, I am realistic enough to know that military personnel are not immune to issues such as mental illess and financial difficulties.  The problems that life brings can be magnified by the stress of deployment...

Lies Told to Foster TSA Hatred

Navy Seal Smuggler

I support our troops all the way. I support their family members all the way too. I KNOW what it does to a spouse to have to say "Goodbye" for months at a time. But let's get real, people. No one is superhero enough to be immune from the laws and regulations that are set forth for the rest of us.

TSA Hatred

Oh, wow. I can't believe all of the hatred that is being directed at the TSA officers these days. Do people really and truly believe that TSA employees are ALL out on a power trip? These people have families and lives outside the workplace. They are volunteers in their communities, they donate money to charities, they have house payments and car payments...they go to church, they go to college, and some are veterans or even weekend warriors.

I have watched how the TSA does their job, and they are VERY professional people. However, I have watched the public go through the security screening areas with crappy attitudes. I used to work at the airport, and even worked in the secured area. You would not believe the things that I saw the flying "innocent" public do to these officers...and then come to me, order a sandwich, and tell an outright lie about their experience!

And then people read these stories and assume that they're all true--must be true, it's on the internet, right???  If you do your research, you'll even see that many of the claims that are made to the reputable news sources end up being BS.

The procedures are not arbitrarily made up on the spot. I know that I would NOT enjoy having to stoop in front of someone who happens to have gas or other odorous problems. And having to go through bags of sex toys is not my idea of a wonderful job. Especially when the person who owns the bags is treating you like you're out to get them.

I will not say that there aren't jerks working for the TSA, but I can say that from what I've seen, the jerks are pointed out by their coworkers to management. Complaints are taken seriously and investigated fully. AND there are cameras all over airports these days!!

So, since you're on the internet already, looking up stories that may or may not be true, why not stop in and get the scoops from the so-called horse's mouth?? Learn the regulations and educate yourself about the policies and procedures before you fly, so that you're not looking foolish in line at the checkpoint!

You can even print the prohibited items lists, as well as the procedures! Carry them with you when you fly home for the holidays!
